On the 14th of March the literature endowment of the Estonian Cultural Capital announced the winners of the annual award for creative work conducted in 2022. Laureates were announced in ten categories and in the category of translation of philosophical literature, the winner of was lead researcher fellow Kristi Viiding`s translation of Justus Lipsius` work On Slander and Fortitude from Latin into Estonian.

“The philosophical literature jury was captivated by the way that the book Kristi Viiding translated embodies several significant virtues. It draws the attention of the Estonian reader to the views of Justus Lipsius, a XVI century neo-Stoic thinker, on slander and fortitude, which are perennial topics and in every sense relevant to today`s circumstances. Lipsius` texts have been translated from the Latin into beautiful Estonian. The work is also enriched by plentiful commentary and the translator`s afterword. All of these aspects add up to an achievement worthy of recognition,” said Bruno Mölder, chairman of the jury.
