On Friday, 22 December at 18.15, the Free Academy is hosting the science historian Kristiina Savin from Lund University. She will give a public lecture “Envy in Western Thought”. The lecture will broach questions that many thinkers have dwelled on since antiquity. What is envy? What are the moral and social dimensions of this emotion?

Tracing the treatment of envy in Western theories of emotion, the lecture also offers a more general overview of the handling of feelings in the history of ideas. We are also looking for answers to the question whether Estonians are particularly envious.

The presentation will take place at Jakob Culture House (Jakobi 41). The broadcast of the lecture can be viewed here.
